The Spirit of Spring
Now that the equinox has come, we are officially in the season of Spring! Of course, you might not think so if you had to scrape ice off of your window that morning. But if you’ve been paying attention, you can see that Spring was coming even before it arrived. The leaves were getting ready to bloom on the trees, the birds were singing, the animals were waking up and the days were longer.
Spring is a wonderful time of year because it offers newness and a sense of “starting over”. Not in a mundane sense but with a spirit of renewal. What are you doing to renew and revive your life? There are many ways that you can do this for yourself – several of which are associated with spriritual practices. One that is not “religious” in its practice but that welcomes in newness and the spirit of Spring, and that clears out old energy and ushers in a fresh sense of life is a feng shui practice called The Fragrant Flower Cure.
The Fragrant Flower Cure
- Begin on an auspicious day. (You can find out exact days according to Chinese astrology, but I find that if I “go with my gut”, I usually feel really good on auspicious days. So just start on a day you feel really good.)
- Set an intention before purchasing a bouquet of flowers. (Choose a bouquet of the same type of flowers – not mixed.)
- Place this bouquet in the center of your home (center of the Bagua).
- Every third day, set a new intention and purchase a different kind of flower bouquet. Place each bouquet in a different area of the home (different square of the Bagua).
- Choose a different flower bouquet each time (i.e. tulips, daisies, gerberas, carnations, roses, etc.). Don’t get the same kind twice. *The more fragrant the flowers, the better.
- Throw the flowers out when they die.
- Do this for 27 days. At the end of this exercise, there will be fresh flowers all over the house.
Open up your home to the spirit of Spring and try this “cure” to usher in the newness of the season. At best it will renew your sense of the beauty of the cycle of life; at worst it will leave you with a home full of magnificent flowers!

What a wonderful way to welcome the season of Spring! I love the idea that the fresh flowers will “visit”
each of the different areas of my home. Each room has its own purpose and the intention designated before the purchase of the different flowers makes me more aware of the “goals” I have set for myself. The flowers will serve as a visual aid to me and center me towards accomplishing my set goals. I like this! I may even make it a practice to “welcome” each new season as they come along! Lovely thought!!
